Royal Burgundy Japanese Barberry (Berberis thunbergii 'Gentry')
Description:
An attractive compact shrub for the garden border with rich velvet-burgundy foliage all season long turning to deep red in fall, keeps its tightly mounded low-growing habit without pruning, color doesn't fade over summer
Ornamental Features:
Royal Burgundy Japanese Barberry is primarily grown for its highly ornamental fruit. The fruits are showy scarlet drupes carried in abundance from early to late fall. It has attractive burgundy foliage which emerges red in spring. The small oval leaves are highly ornamental and turn an outstanding dark red in the fall. It features tiny clusters of yellow flowers hanging below the branches in mid spring.

Royal Burgundy Japanese Barberry is a dense multi-stemmed deciduous shrub with a mounded form. It lends an extremely fine and delicate texture to the landscape composition which should be used to full effect.
This is a relatively low maintenance shrub, and should not require much pruning, except when necessary, such as to remove dieback. Deer don't particularly care for this plant and will usually leave it alone in favor of tastier treats. Gardeners should be aware of the following characteristic(s) that may warrant special consideration;

Getting Your Plants to You
In Store pick up-
At checkout you will have the option of picking up your plants at the Oakland location of your choice. You will receive an email from us when your order is ready. Although some of the material is currently in stock at the store, most material is shipped from our local growing facility and will arrive on the next truck scheduled for the store. Depending on the season, this can be anywhere from 24 hours to 7 days from the date of order. When your order is ready, please bring a copy of your confirmation email to the service desk of your local Oakland location and a sales associate will gather your order and assist with loading if necessary.
Delivery-
A local delivery option is also available for your convenience. For a flat $50 delivery fee we will deliver your plant material to a location within 20 miles of your nearest Oakland store. Please check the delivery area coverage map attached to confirm you are within the 20-mile range. After selecting the delivery option and completing your transaction, you will receive a call from us within 24 hours to schedule an exact delivery day and timeframe. At this time, you can convey any special instructions such as whether you want your plants taken to a backyard, patio, or specific portion of the property. Any additional products such as soil amendments or mulch can be added to your order at this time and delivered for no extra charge. Delivery scheduling will vary depending on seasonality and the current store delivery backlog at your nearest Oakland location.
Return Policy
You may return plants in good salable condition within 14 days of purchase. Receipt must accompany all returns. Refunds will be issued in the same form as original payment. Refunds for plants purchased on shop.oaklandnursery.com can be completed over the phone if the items have not yet been picked up or delivered at the time of the return request. Please call 614-545-4542 to process online returns.
Plant Warranty Policy
Oakland Nurseries warrants that all nursery stock is true to name and in good, healthy, viable condition at the time of purchase. We accept returns provided you have your original receipt plus original plant tags and dead plant. A valid phone number and address are required for returns. Cancelled checks or copies of credit card charges are not acceptable.
Dead plants are eligible for a one-time plant credit for the purchase price of plants, less any coupons or discounts. Plant credits may be used to purchase plants or merchandise in the garden store. Plants purchased with a plant credit are not guaranteed. Sale plants are warranted for the sale price only.
Plant credits expire one year from the date issued.

Size Guide
When ordering your plant material, it is important to understand the various pot sizes and other industry jargon associated with each plant type and size. Here is a quick crash course:Trees- Ex.
ARMSTRONG GOLD® MAPLE (ACER FREEMANII) #15- 1.25” $149
#15- industry pot size, approximately 15” tall, 17.5” in diameter1.25”- Diameter of the trunk of the tree measured 6” from the top if the soil.
OTHER PLANT/POT SIZE COMBINATIONS
#15- 8’- Industry pot size and approximate height of tree
#15- 48” Std- Industry pot size, “std” is used to describe a smaller topiary-type grafted tree. 48” would refer to the height of the tree where the graft starts.
#7 30-36”- industry pot size plus “30-36” refers to the overall size of the plant. Usually used in smaller trees like Japanese Maples
#15 5’ MS- industry pot size plus MS Refers to the height of a multi- stem tree like a river birch that branches from the ground.
